Infection Control and Prevention
The Infection Control and Prevention Program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) directs the infection control policies, hospital epidemiology, surveillance, testing, isolation, and complex care management for patients, staff, departments, and service lines.
Program Goals
The goals of the Infection Control and Prevention Program are:
- to reduce and eliminate infections in the hospital environment and mitigate infectious risks through a comprehensive program of surveillance, hospital epidemiology, disease tracking, isolation, and response;
- study and track trends in drug resistant organisms and antimicrobial resistance and provide advice to clinicians on optimal use of antibiotic strategies for infectious diseases;
- advise hospital employees, departments and leadership on developing optimized policies and procedures to uphold infection control guidance, regulatory requirements, and standards of care.
Program Leadership
Led by Dr. Lisa Winston, MD, MPH, Dr. Vivek Jain, MD, MAS, FIDSA, and Program Manager Elaine Dekker, RN, BSN, CIC, the Infection Control and Prevention Program provides management and consultation services to ZSFG patients and staff throughout the year.
