Unidos en Salud - United in Health
We are a group of academic, institutional, and community members that partnered with the San Francisco Latino Task Force, the SF and California Health Departments at the onset of the COVID pandemic.
We conducted large-scale, low-barrier, free COVID-19 test-and-respond and outdoor vaccination campaigns in the Mission District to empower community members and help guide the public health response. During this time, we provided over 100,000 COVID tests and over 80,000 vaccines. In collaboration with the DeRisi lab in the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, we tracked the evolving SARS-CoV-2 strains. Under our “science and service” model, we rapidly generated and shared data that informed diagnosis and care delivery for COVID. Our low-barrier, community-facing model was featured at a special White House meeting in 2022.
Taking the lessons from the emergency COVID response, Unidos en Salud is continuing to operate under the Latino Task Force and with technical services provide by BayPLS:
- Fall Respiratory virus vaccine campaign: COVID and Flu vaccines are available during the respiratory virus season.
- Healthy First Fridays: We have a year-round presence at Capp and 24th Street with our collaboration with Calle 24 where we host “Healthy First Fridays.” At these events, we provide screening for hypertension, free screening for HIV and diabetes and COVID.
Our work depends on your donations. We invite you to contribute to this important academic, community and public health service. Every donation will help keep this important effort present.
