Research

The UCSF Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases & Global Medicine is committed to addressing both local and global health challenges through innovative research.
Our work spans a broad spectrum of infectious diseases, from AIDS to Zika, with a focus on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, malaria, insect-transmitted viruses, emerging infections (including pandemic viruses), and bacterial infections, along with the effects of food security, substance use, and climate change on infectious diseases and health outcomes.
Our research teams employ holistic, multi-disease approaches to study the implementation of prevention and treatment strategies for these infectious diseases at the population level. Many of our programs have international components, with the goal of improving the prevention, treatment, and control of some of the world’s most pressing infectious diseases, working toward their eventual eradication.
As infectious disease threats continue to evolve, our research remains adaptable as we work together with communities to tackle critical global health challenges facing the world today.
