Provide input on the current NIH HIV research priorities and emerging scientific areas to be considered for support over the next 5 years.

The Office of AIDS Research (OAR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is holding a series of regional Listening Sessions throughout the United States to seek input from scientists, advocates, health care providers, public health implementers, community representatives, and other stakeholders on the current NIH HIV research priorities and emerging scientific areas to be considered for support over the next 5 years. The discussions at these sessions will help to inform the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research, which serves as the basis for NIH programmatic and budgetary decision-making.

The UCSF AIDS Research Institute (ARI), along with the UCSF-Gladstone Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) will host one of these Listening Sessions on November 13, 2019 from 3:00p to 5:00p in William and Susan Obendorf Auditorium at UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, 1855 4th Street, San Francisco, CA, 94158. Light refreshments will be served.

We invite you to participate in this public forum to provide your feedback and to help inform the NIH HIV research agenda. Prior to the meeting, participants should familiarize themselves with the current NIH HIV research priorities and guidelines for HIV/AIDS funding (NOT-OD-15-137), the proposed updates for the priorities outlined in the recently published Research Priorities Request for Information (NOT-OD-19-078), and the strategy for Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America, and consider the following questions:

  1. Within the overarching HIV research priority areas, what do you think are the most important unanswered questions or topics requiring new or expanded attention over the next 5 years?
  2. How will attention to these topics contribute to the goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the US by 2030, and the 90:90:90 goals globally?
  3. What types of training, infrastructure, capacity-building, community engagement, and educational outreach efforts will be required to address these research topics?

Due to space limitations, attendance will be on a first come, first served basis. Registration is available on the website.

We appreciate your interest in helping the OAR achieve its vision to end the HIV epidemic and improve the health and well-being of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.

Sincerely,

Maureen M. Goodenow, Ph.D.
Associate Director of HIV/AIDS Research and
Director, Office of AIDS Research
National Institutes of Health
